Provenance features SLUB

Since 2009, the SLUB has been carrying out systematic provenance research projects on illegally expropriated book stocks with the support of various funding agencies. All the projects aim at researching and documenting provenance features, identifying previous owners, and determining heirs or legal successors and subsequently returning the items. Research results are documented in the SLUB and Deutsche Fotothek catalogues, while the finds are reported in the "Lost Art" database in the case of items of Nazi-confiscated cultural heritage. Books, which unlawfully came into the possession of the present-day SLUB after the end of the Second World War, have also been documented. They came either from expropriations in the course of the land reform in the Soviet Occupation Zone (the so-called palace salvage) or as a result of injustices in the GDR.
